Ensuring Safe Play

Shuttlestars Badminton Club is deeply committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all junior participants.

At Shuttlestars Badminton Club, we are dedicated to ensuring both an inclusive and safe environment for all participants through our robust Club protocols.

All instructors, staff, and volunteers undergo Criminal Record Checks and complete comprehensive badminton training, guaranteeing their qualifications.

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) protocols ensure both an inclusive and safe environment for all participants.

Additionally, our comprehensive Injury Prevention and Management practices are in place to protect players.

All coaches and volunteers are trained in First Aid, CPR, and Concussion Awareness, and we enforce our Emergency Action Plan (EAP) to handle medical situations swiftly.

Through these safety protocols, we strive to prevent injuries and ensure a supportive environment where every player can focus on enjoying and improving their game.

Criminal Record Checks

Ensuring Safety and Trust

What Are Criminal Record Checks?
Criminal Record Checks (CRCs) are thorough background screenings that verify an individual’s criminal history. They are an essential tool in ensuring that all staff, coaches, and volunteers working with young athletes meet safety and ethical standards.

Why It Matters
CRCs help protect participants by preventing individuals with histories of offenses, particularly those related to children, from gaining access to vulnerable groups. This process reinforces trust between the club, participants, and families, ensuring that everyone involved in Shuttlestars Badminton Club feels safe and secure.

How We Implement CRCs
At Shuttlestars Badminton Club, all instructors, staff, and volunteers undergo a mandatory Criminal Record Check before working with junior participants. We follow strict protocols to review and renew these checks regularly, ensuring ongoing compliance and safety.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Fostering an Inclusive and Welcoming Community

What is Our DEI Policy?
Shuttlestars Badminton Club is committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment that embraces diversity at all levels. Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy ensures that badminton is accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, race, ability, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation. We focus on removing barriers to participation and creating opportunities for underrepresented groups to be a part of our community.

Why It Matters

We believe diversity strengthens our club and sport. By promoting equity and inclusion, we create a badminton community where all participants feel valued, respected, and supported. This commitment helps ensure that everyone has a chance to contribute meaningfully and enjoy the sport to its fullest.

How We Implement DEI Practices
At Shuttlestars, we actively work to support women, girls, Indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, persons with disabilities, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and individuals from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. Our programs are designed to remove obstacles and offer tailored support, from mentorship for women and girls to accessible facilities for athletes with disabilities.

Our DEI initiatives include mentorship, leadership opportunities, and outreach programs aimed at making badminton a sport that everyone can enjoy, no matter their background or identity.

Injury Prevention and Management

Ensuring Player Safety in Every Session

Preventing Injuries in Junior Badminton
Badminton is generally considered a low-contact and safe sport, but injuries can still occur, particularly in young athletes. At Shuttlestars, we prioritize injury prevention through proper warm-ups, stretching routines, and technique instruction to help young players avoid strains, sprains, and overuse injuries. We also ensure that all our coaches are trained to monitor players for signs of fatigue and stress to prevent injury.

First Aid Readiness
To ensure player safety, a fully stocked First Aid Kit is available at all Shuttlestars programs, events, and practices. Coaches and volunteers are prepared to administer immediate care, and our kit includes essential supplies like bandages, ice packs, antiseptic wipes, and more, in case of minor injuries or emergencies.

First Aid, CPR, and Concussion Training
All Shuttlestars coaches and volunteers are certified in First Aid and CPR to respond to medical incidents with confidence. Additionally, they receive training in concussion awareness, allowing them to recognize symptoms early and act swiftly to ensure proper care. This ensures that any potential head injury is handled promptly and safely.

Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
In the event of a medical emergency or injury during practice or a match, our Emergency Action Plan (EAP) guides coaches and volunteers on how to respond. Every coach is trained on how to implement the EAP, ensuring they can take quick, effective action, contact emergency services, and manage the situation until further help arrives.

Emergency Evacuation Plan
At Shuttlestars facilities, we have a detailed Emergency Evacuation Plan to ensure everyone’s safety in case of fire or other emergencies. Our staff and coaches are trained on the evacuation routes and protocols, ensuring that all players can be safely and efficiently evacuated from the facility if necessary.

By focusing on prevention and ensuring our team is prepared to manage emergencies, Shuttlestars Badminton Club ensures that player safety is always our top priority.
